Steaming up the Churnet Valley
Although it gives a dramatic effect to a photograph, the amount and dirty colour of the smoke from this steam train leaving Cheddleton suggests either poor quality coal or a poorly trained crew. But then they are all volunteers. The locomotive is no. 44767.

Churnet Valley Railway - Superpower Weekend
The train is approaching Cheddleton Station with the locomotive running tender first. There are three S160 2-8-0 freight engines - one at the end closest to the photographer and two at the far end. One of the two at the far end is blowing off excess steam through its safety valves. this was a spectacular fund-raising event but the weather was flat. The original event in 2019 was cancelled due to torrential rainfall that flooded the line.
