George Massey's ginger beer factory
Directory records for 1880 show George Massey as a ginger beer manufacturer at an address in an adjacent street. This building is dated 1883 and is clearly related to the trade Image], so it is reasonable to assume that the business was prosperous enough to justify the building of a new works, complete with attached dwelling house. The shop may well have existed as the retail outlet from the time of building, but the shop front itself is clearly modern. The continued use of the building can also be made out from the faded sign on the side wall at the right of the building. Image]
The whole building is a remarkably untouched example of a small courtyard factory with retail front and dwelling house.

Tylman of Leek cabinetmakers
The store was founded by Charlie Tylman in 1975 and begun as a small family business. There is a kitchen and furniture showroom at the rear, which can be reached through the yard on the left. They use the traditional old-fashioned techniques to make their products, including a Shaker-style kitchen worktops etc.

The Old Police Station
A Sugden & Son design, probably one of the last on which the older William would have been involved, mixing Arts and Crafts detailing with the Scottish Baronial style. Now replaced by a modern building, and currently unoccupied. Dating from 1891 it included the Superintendent's house, and various ancillary buildings including stables around the rear courtyard. Grade II listed.
