On Saturday 10th July 2010 it was reported that the old Hinguar School, in Hinguar Street, being more than 100 years old and on a site too small even for present numbers was to be replaced with a new school. The new Hinguar Primary School and Nursery would be built at New Garrison Road, Shoeburyness. It would have places for 300 older pupils and a nursery for 26 children, the council aimed for it to be finished by January 2012.
The acclaimed new £6.9 million Hinguar Primary School and Nursery in Shoeburyness opened its doors on Tuesday 4th September to welcome the new pupils to the new premises. On Friday 26th October the school was officially opened and guests were invited to tour the building in New Garrison Road, from 2:30pm, and at 3pm. The Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor Sally Carr, unveiled a commemorative plaque.
