Thorpe Bay Gardens, Thorpe Bay
Thorpe Bay Gardens is one of the most expensive roads in Southend. The contrast between this and some of the other roads in the area is instructive. As is so often the case, respective postcodes mark the difference. Whereas this road is (just) within the SS1 area things look very different just over the border in parts of SS3. Compare this for example with Image which lies just over ten minutes' walk away.

The 'boats crossing' warning must be one of the more unusual to be found on UK roads. It is needed because the road passes between the Thorpe Bay Yacht Club's compound and its slipway.

A vast collection of sailing dinghies is stored here, separated from the water by a busy road. The clubhouse is the furthest to the left of the line of buildings. The banner advertises the Southend Barge Match scheduled for later in the month.
