SUFC in action at Roots Hall, Prittlewell, Southend-on-Sea against Bristol City. This shot was taken from the West Stand and shows golden boy Freddy Eastwood, the guy who knocked Man Utd out of the FA Cup. Wish I'd have had my camera then to capture Rooney's face. Roots Hall photos will soon rise in value as football at Roots Hall will shortly be gone forever when Shrimpers move to their new mulit-million pound den at Fossetts Farm.

Taken on the last match of 2005/6 against Bristol City on the day United won the Championship. The score was 1-0 to the blue army. Here we see family stand behind the goal-mouth. I have loads of footage of SUFC including video so any Shrimpers fans should email me.

Prittlewell: Roots Hall Avenue
Up until around 1900 Prittlewell was just a small village, quite separate from Southend. But between then and the start of the First World War, housing development infilled the gap and Prittlewell was swallowed up into the urban sprawl of Southend. Roots Hall Avenue, with its terraced houses without front gardens, at the back of what was subsequently to become the football ground of Southend United, would have been an early development in this period.
