This is the main road into the estate from the junction at Chester Road. Pennywell is large estate originally built in the early 1950's as council housing.

Grindon Hall, Sunderland
This was built in the mid C19 as a manor house and owned by the Doxford family, who had a shipbuilding yard on the River Wear. In 1922 it was sold to Sunderland city council and became a sanatorium. Since 2000 it has been Grindon Hall Christian School.
