This raised path follows the route of a former railway into Sunderland. The path forms part of the National Cycle Network route 1, a long distance route linking Dover with the Shetland Islands.

Hawarden Crescent, Sunderland
A fine example of a street of "Sunderland cottages". Hundreds of these single storey terraced cottages were built in the city in the C19 and early C20. They form a distinctive local type little used elsewhere.

High Barnes Terrace, Sunderland
Typical of a whole series of terraced streets south of Chester Road, lined with the single storey terraced houses known as Sunderland Cottages. They are a type almost unique to Sunderland widely built from the mid C19 right up until 1930's.
