Despite its name, Beach Street leads not to a beach but into an industrial area on the bank of the River Wear. In this image, the Stadium of Light (football ground) and Sunderland Aquatic Centre (swimming pool) are visible. Both are on the opposite side of the river.

Millfield 2nd railway station (site), Tyne and Wear
Opened in 1890 by the North Eastern Railway on the line from Durham to Sunderland, this station replaced an earlier one on the far side of the bridge. It in turn closed to passengers in 1955. View south east towards University and Sunderland. A Metro station was opened on the site of the original railway station in 2002, visible beyond the bridge.
