End of the line
The Tyne and Wear Metro was extended from Sunderland to South Hylton in 2002 making use in the main of the line of the former Sunderland to Durham railway. Trains operate from South Hylton at 12 minute intervals through to the Airport. But at least during the day, such a high-frequency service on this extension does not seem to be getting much custom.
