Opened in 2002 by the Tyne and Wear Metro as the terminus of the line from Sunderland. The original railway on which the Metro was built dates back to 1852, and was the North Eastern Railway line from Durham to Sunderland. View north east towards Pallion and Sunderland. The old Hylton station was immediately behind the camera position. It closed to passengers in 1964.
