Plaque, 152 - 156 Castle Street
Plaque on the wall of 152 - 156 Castle Street (see Image). It reads: "The Secret Spitfire Charity. This plaque permanently marks one of the sites where Spitfires were produced during the Second World War from 1940 to 1945. This was the entrance to the Wilts and Dorset Bus Depot where fuselage assembly and engine fitting happened and was requisitioned after the Supermarine factories producing Spitfires in Southampton were bombed during September 1940. The Secret Spitfire Charity was founded in June 2019 to Honour and Remember the Hidden Civilian Army including many local women recruited secretly to produce approximately 2,500 Spitfires in the Salisbury area alone."
