Salisbury - Laverstock North Junction
A 1963 view of a freight train heading towards Salisbury from the Basingstoke direction. The photo was taken from the then-defunct railway embankment which had formed the eastern side of a triangle of railway lines. The line between what are now named Laverstock North and Laverstock South Junctions was taken out of use in the early 1900’s only to be re-laid in 1983. It is now used mainly as a diversionary route to relieve congestion on the busy Southampton to Basingstoke route via Winchester.
