A road first marked on the 1881 25 inch map but with no houses and then shown as mainly developed on the 1901 edition. However the nearer row of houses seen here is later, being first on the 1926 or 1939 editions (in the case of the nearest ones).

Stone Relic, Castle Street, Salisbury
This relic of ancient stonework was re-erected in 1908. It marks the position of the Castle Street Gate which formed part of the fortification of the city in 1378. The gate and west buttress were removed in 1788 and the east buttress in 1906.
