Chequer board, Salisbury Cathedral
Just past the Chapter House door on a low wall has been carved a chequer board. Is it possible that choirboys whiled away the time before services by playing here?

Cross, Salisbury Cathedral
During the restoration of the North East Transept of the Cathedral approximately 530 stones needed replacement and the ornamental topping was found to be completely missing. The new cross in now ready to adorn the Cathedral and it is at present on display in the Cloisters. The piece has been worked by the Cathedral's Works Department 4th Year Apprentice Andrew Kirby and is carved from a single piece of 'Chicksgrove' stone. It has taken 220 hours to complete.

Stone for the cathedral
South of the cathedral is the working site for the repairs. Here are a number of large blocks of Portland stone numbered and awaiting dressing and placing. Not a simple job judging by their size.
