Allways, Vernham Dean, Hampshire
Late C18. Brick and flint, with a thatch roof. Symmetrical front (south) of 1 storey and attic, 1 above 2 windows. ½-hipped gable to the roadway, tile-hung above a brick wall in Flemish bond, with cambered openings: the side walls are flint with brick dressings. Casements. Former central doorway (now a window) has a thatched hood on rustic posts, with curving soffits faced with a decorative board below trellis work: the present entrance at the side is a C20 glazed porch.

Old Post Office, Vernham Dean
Most villages have got one of these, along with the old schools and old bakeries etc. (Actually, that's not fair, Vernham Dean still has a school) This place is looking a lot better than when it was pictured in 2008
Image which says it ceased being a Post Office back in 2005.

Chapel, Vernham Dean
In 2023 a former village resident, Alan Cooper, provided the following information:
This is the former Primitive Methodist Chapel, built 1845. This closed in the late 1990s and by around 2000 a Canadian lady had purchased the cottage behind and the chapel, which she used to create fine embroidery and beadwork. She was featured in a TV programme around 2000 called "Country Ways" about Vernham Dean and its surroundings. https://www.myprimitivemethodists.org.uk/content/chapels/hampshire/t-z-hampshire/vernham_dean_primitive_methodist_chapel
From 2017 to 2021 a succession of new owners have failed to gain planning permission to convert the former chapel to a residential property. For more information and with internal photographs see https://www.thesteepletimes.com/opulence-splendour/chapel-vernham-dean/

In need of some work
The lack of render does reveal a patchwork of brick and stonework including the bricked up remains of two doors. No wonder it needs to be rendered.

Was this the Post Office, Vernham Dean
This sad building may well have been the village post office, although there was nothing to say that it was. A modern postbox and set into the wall a George V box.
Information from another member confirms that this was in fact the Post Office and it closed in 2005.
