Thatch in Wildhern
One of a number of thatched properties in Wildhern. One can tell the thatcher by the pattern on the ridge, so although it is not too clear from the photo we know that this was thatched by the same person who also did this one Image

Weather vane, Wildhern
For centuries weathervanes have kept people in touch with the elements, signalling those shifts in the wind, which bring changes in the weather. This simple device has grown into a charming English tradition which can say something about their owners, adding interest to the landscape.

It is more recently mapped as a Methodist Church Hall, but the stone above the porch shows 'Primitive Methodist Chapel A.D. 1880'. It seems now to have little use.

Wildhern Methodist church, Wildhern, Hants
The sign outside calls it 'church' as distinct from 'chapel'. The stone plaque over the door bears the words 'Primitive Methodist Chapel AD 1880'. The Primitive Methodists were a breakaway group from mainstream methodism in the first part of the 19th century. They were nicknamed 'ranters'; one can speculate why. There are numerous other examples of PM chapels to be found such as Image
