For some reason the OS map marks this road as the A36 near this point. This is incorrect. It never has been the A36 which runs from Southampton to Salisbury in this area

Old Milestone by the A3090, Ampfield, near Southampton
Metal plate attached to stone post by the A3090, in parish of AMPFIELD (TEST VALLEY District), East of the Ampfield War Memorial, on the verge, on North side of road. Romsey iron plate, erected by the Winchester & Romsey turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- WINTON 7 ROMSEY 4 Grade II listed.
