Detail of cobwebbed telephone box at Crampmoor
The notice above the phone, which is dated 4/9/2009 (i.e. some ten months before the photograph) reads, in part: "PUBLIC NOTICE This telephone kiosk is available for adoption by the local Town, Parish or Community Council. A detailed survey has shown that this kiosk IS NOT being used sufficiently to continue the service at this location. However, recent consultation on payphone removals has highlighted strong feelings towards retention of red kiosks, without telephony service, for their heritage value alone. BT is therefore offering the local community the opportunity to take ownership of this kiosk structure without the telephony for just £1. Alternatively BT also offers a sponsorship scheme whereby the telephony service can be subsidised." As the phone seemed to be working, I assume a sponsorship deal was agreed.
