Totton Goods Yard viewed from Brokenford Bridge
See also Image Unsurprisingly, the yard now appears to be disused, although the Fawley Branch survives, despite the fact that most of the output from the refinery is now transmitted by pipeline. Afternote 2017. There are no longer rail freight services to or from Fawley but part of the branch remains in use to serve the Marchwood military port.

Totton Goods Yard
A typical railway goods yard scene which was fairly unchanging for more than a century. Viewed here from the Brokenford footbridge. The two tracks to the left form the Waterloo to Bournemouth main line. That in the centre is the Fawley Branch.

Cleared industrial site at Brokenford
Viewed from Brokenford footbridge, this is the cleared depot of the Wilmot & Mansour Company, which developed the 'FROG' model aircraft and 'Jetex' model solid fuel motor in the '30s. Post-war, their main site was in Salisbury Road Totton, but the company branched out into packaging and transport and the Brokenford site was used for this purpose. In the '50s and '60s the site was particularly active in shipping the personal effects of US military personnel who were returning home after their tour of duty in the UK.

There are plans to expand this store on Maynard Road; the firm hopes to encourage alternative forms of transport, and will enhance cycle facility. How much shopping can you safely carry on a bike?
