Bittern at Hedge End
A steam excursion hauled by A4 ex LNER Pacific 60019 "Bittern", which usually works on the Mid Hants Railway. The excursion, from Haywards Heath to Bath, was running nearly an hour late, and was scheduled to stop at Hedge End station for water.
The railway acts as a boundary between suburban sprawl to the right (south-west) and farmland to the left (north-east).

Railway bridge, Hedge End station
This is the bridge over the railway in Shamblehurst Lane.
To the south of the bridge (behind the photographer) Hedge End has boomed into a vast area of modern housing estates in the last twenty years.
Below the bridge on the left is the modern Hedge End station.
