Junction of Firmstone Road with Winnall Manor Road
Both residential. Firmstone Road is the one on the left. Winnall Manor Road runs down the hill into a commercial area; hence the traffic calming here.

Climbing Winnall Manor Road ? 1973
Bus no.590 of the King Alfred fleet on service 6 to Oliver's Battery. King Alfred buses were a family run firm providing most of the local buses in Winchester. The firm went out of business in 1973 when the retiring owners failed to find a purchaser, and routes and vehicles passed to the National Bus Company's Hants and Dorset subsidiary. The Friends of King Alfred Buses enthusiast group was founded in 1985 to keep alive the memory of the company and has a considerable collection of former King Alfred buses. A major feature has been the annual running day on January 1st when part of the King Alfred network is recreated on a day when normal bus services do not operate. Bus 590 is part of the preserved fleet. It is a Leyland Atlantean with Roe bodywork, new in 1967. It passed to Hants and Dorset and was then moved to the Bristol Omnibus company and converted to open top for use at Weston-super-Mare. It joined FOKAB in 1998. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761 This https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2848472 is a modern view at almost exactly the same location.
