Portswood Road ? 1978
More or less the same location as https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3732668 from 2013 (the Co-op is hidden behind the bus). On the right is Portswood Public Library, dating from 1915. The bus is Southampton Corporation 363, and AEC Regent V with Neepsend bodywork, among the last of this layout to join the fleet. Subsequent double-deckers were Leyland Atlanteans like the one in the background. Note also the telephone at the right edge of the picture. The colouring indicates that this belonged to the transport department. The location is close to the main bus garage and would have been an important point for crew changes. These were the days before buses were routinely equipped with radios for communication. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=137652761
