The Somerset Hospital, Froxfield, Wiltshire
The building straddles two squares but most of it is in this one. It dates to 1694 in the reign of King William III. Two years later the infamous 'window tax' was introduced, the effect of which can be seen in the facade of this building. The Somerset Hospital, Froxfield, Wiltshire dedication
The purpose of the hospital is a little ambiguous from the wording on this plaque but it appears to mean that it was for the widows of both clergymen and laymen.
