Sheep and lambs at Bagbury
View east from Bagbury Lane; the unshorn lambs look the same size as the ewes who have had their summer shearing.

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 This is pillbox #4, part of a small group of three type 28A shellproof pillboxes to the northeast of Lydiard Green. This pillbox deserved special attention as it's in great condition with no blocked embrasures and an uncluttered interior. Image

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 These particular pillboxes on the high ground northeast of Lydiard Green have all been built on very substantial concrete building platforms with concrete ramps behind the rear entrance doorways. The ramp provided wheeled access for a 2 pdr anti-tank gun. Image

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 This is the only pillbox out of the entire six that not only has an almost completely empty interior, but whose embrasures and entrance have not been sealed. Image

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 Rear view showing the wide entrance doorway with its concrete ramp that would have provided wheeled access into the interior for the anti-tank gun. It is assumed that the wide opening of the entrance would have been sandbagged during action. Image

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 The first of three interior views. The main chamber that housed the standard 2 pdr anti-tank gun has in front of its embrasure recesses in the wall for the front trail legs of the gun, and a single slot in the floor for the rear. With the 2 pdr gun in position the maximum traverse was limited to 60 degrees, although its small size would have given the gun a degree of mobility, allowing for its rapid deployment or withdrawal. In action, the gun's armoured shield would have covered most of the large embrasure giving some protection for the gun crew. Image

WWII Wiltshire: shellproof pillboxes of Lydiard Green (Lydiard Millicent) - Pillbox #4
- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 The limitation of the original type 28 pillbox design was its single infantry position seen here at the embrasure on the left. The type 28A remedied this deficiency by the provision of a second adjoining chamber with three more infantry positions (see next photo). Image

- Pillbox - shellproof (type FW3/28A): DoB ID: S0011910 A view inside the adjoining separate annex of two of the three embrasures that provided additional infantry positions. They were additional to that of the single position on the left hand side, that covered the right, the front and the rear (the latter being out of shot behind the photographer). Image
