Roadside shrine, Broome Manor Lane, Swindon
This shrine has been here since the 1990s. It's the usual sad story: young, inexperienced driver in a powerful car showing off to his girlfriend, who lost her life in the accident. her name was Michelle Byrne.

Footpath at the South end of Coate Water
Here the footpath runs parallel to Broome Manor Lane and the southern edge of Coate Water.

South end of Coate Water
Much of the lake's edge is tree lined and fringed with reed beds. The best waterside views are from the wooden fishing platforms which extend out from the bank.

Coate Water country park, Swindon
The lake was originally constructed to provide water for the canals that once ran through Swindon. They have all long gone (apart from a few preserved sections) but the lake remains as a leisure facility. This view is to the north-east from the south-western extremity.

Coate Water, Swindon
Coate Water Country Park contains a 56-acre reservoir built in the 1820s as a headwater tank for the Wilts & Berks Canal. Heron, Broome Manor golf course, Swindon
This haughty bird was waiting by a water hazard, presumably hoping for a quick snack. I don't know if there are any fish in the hazard. I do know there's at least one golf ball. I saw it go in.
