Tate Estate, Kingsdown
A small industrial estate containing an engineering firm and a salvage firm which deals in reclaimed bricks, tiles, wood flooring and railway sleepers to block paving, ironwork and doors. Note the interesting road sign for the hump-backed bridge.

Embankment of disused GWR Highworth branch line
The disused Great Western Railways (GWR) Highworth branch line between Kingsdown Road and Kingsdown Lane. It was built by the Swindon and Highworth Light Railway Company who sold it to the GWR before the first train ran because of faults they could not afford to repair. The first train ran in 1883. The line above Kingsdown Junction was closed in 1962, the remaining line to Swindon (of which this is a part) in 1964. This picture was taken looking towards the disused railway trackbed. It shows the remains of some stone walling, probably built to reinforce the embankment. http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/history.htm

This picture shows the disused South Marston Siding (seen here from the Highworth line above the Kingsdown Junction) which was laid in 1941. More commonly known as the Vickers Branch, it served the Vickers Armstrong Aircraft Factory in South Marston where Spitfires were built. http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/history.htm
