The disused Great Western Railways (GWR) Highworth branch line between Kingsdown Road and Kingsdown Lane. It was built by the Swindon and Highworth Light Railway Company who sold it to the GWR before the first train ran because of faults they could not afford to repair. The first train ran in 1883. The line above Kingsdown Junction was closed in 1962, the remaining line to Swindon in 1964. This picture shows the disused South Marston Siding (seen here from the Highworth line above the Kingsdown Junction) which was laid in 1941. More commonly known as the Vickers Branch, it served the Vickers Armstrong Aircraft Factory in South Marston where Spitfires were built. http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/history.htm
