Darby Close, Cheney Manor Industrial Estate
The Cheney Manor Industrial Estate was first developed in the mid-1950s on the former site of Rodbourne Brick Works. It was part of a deliberate attempt to diversify the range of employment in the town where, in 1908, around 80% of men had worked for the Great Western Railway.

Plaum's Pit, Cheney Manor, Swindon
This large pond is a well-used facility for anglers. However, it is also an unofficial nature reserve with a varied population of water birds including moorhens, coots, swans and ducks. Also to be seen are dragonflies and damselflies. The pond is tucked away between an industrial estate, houses and allotments. I should know how it came by its name but I don't I'm afraid. It may well once have been a brickworks, or at least a claypit.
