I have been past this garden wall innumerable times in the years I have been resident in Swindon but have never had the opportunity to observe this relic from the days before GPS. Roadworks a kilometre east of here caused traffic to be backed up. Whilst my spouse was fuming I took this shot. The benchmark is on the benchmark database https://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm37359

Superior terraced houses of circa 1900 in the Old Town area of Swindon. In general, the higher the altitude in Swindon, the more expensive the housing, so houses for the factory workers were generally at the bottom of the hill and those for the managerial class were at the top.
