Not very busy on a Saturday lunchtime - it is probably more used during the week.

Former sorting office
Alongside Chippenham railway station is this former Post Office sorting office. The older, red brick, part of the building is unfortunately attached to the hideous extension built in 1964.

Paddington train at Chippenham railway station
Today, Saturday May 10th 2015, this First Great Western train from South Wales to London Paddington is on a diversion route through Chippenham because of engineering works line closures east of Swindon.

End of the platform, Chippenham station
The western end of the station extends into this square. This view looks down the line in the direction of Melksham and Bath. Considering it is crossing the northern side of the town centre, the line looks quite sylvan. Brunel's 1841 viaduct beneath is grade II* listed http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-462388-railway-viaduct-chippenham .

The view from the bridge [1]
A few yards southwest of Chippenham railway station, there is a bridge carrying a public footpath over the lines. This is the view looking southwest towards Bristol.

Down train from Chippenham
The station formerly had three platform tracks, but only two remain, either side of an island platform and can only be reached by means of a footbridge (a similar arrangement to that at Halifax, for example). Here, newish IET unit 800301 of Great Western Railway departs towards Bristol at 17.44.

SW part of Chippenham railway station
Viewed from this http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3354274 footbridge. The next station ahead depends on which route your train takes. It's either Bath Spa or Melksham.
