Office and hotel developments, Princes Street, Swindon
The viewpoint is the same as for this one http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1626577 and shows the 1970s Benefits Agency office at the left in more detail. The road layout has recently been altered in front of the hotel as part of a redevelopment scheme and a major roundabout has been removed from the spot where the photographer is standing.

Corporation Street, Swindon
View northwards up Corporation Street. In the foreground is one of the ethnic shops typical of the Broad Street/Manchester Road area, while in the background towers Jurys Inn. Between the two are the roadworks for the new Whalebridge roundabout layout, while to the right, the white hoardings enclose the vacant lot where Davis House Salvation Army hostel formerly stood.

Corporation Street, Swindon
View northwards up Corporation Street. In the distance towers Jurys Inn, while on the corner of Volta Road a small business, typical of many in the area, survives. The alterations and deletions on the road signs betray the chaos up ahead, where the new Whalebridge roundabout layout is being installed. To the right, the white hoardings hide the vacant lot where Davis House Salvation Army hostel stood until it was demolished in 2007.

Fleming Way and the Whale Bridge roundabout, Swindon
Fleming Way in the foreground is one of the main routes through Swindon. It lies on the line of an old canal. The roundabout where once stood a bridge over the canal can be seen at the left. Jurys Inn is a brand-new hotel built on the site of a car showroom, which it had been for many years. Successive dealers starting with a company called Preaters held the Ford franchise. The rather grim low-rise building alongside the hotel contains government offices. The hoardings to the right shield the site of a former police station.
