Weavers House
This large doorway opening onto The Green is indicative of the many places in Calne that were employed in the wool trade over the centuries. The trade included fulling and cloth-working mills, which produced the raw material, and the finishing workshops.

A seat on The Green, a small triangle of open space in the old part of Calne. These ancient streets are lovely, but there's nowhere for the car. St Mary's Church in the background.

2010 : The King George, New Road, Calne
Probably dedicated to George I as there is no regnum number, looks old enough. Unfortunately now closed, note the eyes looking out accusingly. A reference on the www says: "Try the King George, top of New Road - excellent food, cooked for you from fresh ingredients. Extremely good and excellent value." Not now it isn't. The A4 passes the door.

Old school on The Green
Calne had a number of schools set up by private concerns and individuals from the seventeenth century, not all of which are still operating. This one is dated 1829. See Image] for a small feature.
