Built as the Wiltshire County Pauper Lunatic Asylum following the 1845 Lunacy Act which required county asylums to be built, the hospital closed in 1995 and has been converted into living accommodation. Built in 1849-51 and extended at various times, the hospital housed over 1,500 patients at its peak.
