The footpath from Coate Bridge, part of the Wessex Ridgeway long distance path, runs alongside the right of the barn to join the byway at this point. The barn is part of the facilities of Coate Grove House.

2012 : In training on the minor road to Coate
When road racing many years ago we were told to keep left - not right, that is for walkers. Roundway Hill is in the background.

Track to Stert
The track, a designated byway and part of the Wessex Ridgeway long distance path ascends from Coate Lane. This view is in an almost identical position to that of Doug Lee's 2006 image Image The concrete blocks seen there have been removed and the byway is open to vehicles. At the junction with Coate Lane there is an old sign by Wiltshire County Council stating that the byway was to be closed to vehicles to prevent further damage. It would seem that the byway has recently been repaired/resurfaced. Vieve Forward's image dated December 2012 shows the state of the byway at that time Image

Byway closed to vehicles
At the time this image was taken the current Ordnance Survey maps showed this as a byway open to all traffic. However, the section between here and SU02756125 was at that time closed to vehicles with the closure enforced by concrete blocks. As can be seen in Image the byway has since been reopened.

2012 : North east from the minor road to Coate
Ground looks a bit rough for easy mowing. Looking across the western end of the Vale of Pewsey. The white horse on the hillside far right is the one above Alton Barnes on Walkers Hill. Moving left we find Milk Hill and Clifford's Hill. The view direction is confirmed by electricity pylons seen through the trees to the left (they can be useful).
