A walk from Chirton to the Plain and return [60]
From the minor road, this bridleway leads to Wilsford. Posts have been erected to prevent mechanically propelled vehicles driving on the bridleway. The walk leaves Chirton village, crosses the Andover Road, A342, and follows a restricted byway southwards before branching off onto a bridleway which ascends the scarp slope onto Salisbury Plain. At the edge of the Westdown Artillery Range, a military training area, a byway is followed east before turning north to follow a bridleway and then a minor road to Marden village. A footpath which becomes a bridleway is then taken, leading back to the starting point in Chirton. About 4¾ miles.
