The Crammer, Devizes, Wiltshire
This is said by some to be the pond at the heart of the 'Moonrakers of Wiltshire legend. Maybe it is, maybe not. It is not very deep and dried up completely in the drought summer of 1976.

A visitor to St James
The churchyard is a green and pleasant space right next to the pond and park, known as The Crammer. With such an urban oasis, there are several occupants who enjoy the area.

Waterfowl on The Crammer
The large pond beside the church in Devizes attracts ducks and swans. It also attracts plenty of people too, so perhaps there is no surprise the birds gather.

Devizes buildings [61]
The Wyvern Club, a private members club, is located in Church Walk. The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.

The Crammer, Devizes, Wiltshire from a churchyard
The churchyard of St James (sic) church behind the viewpoint is bounded by the Crammer. The gridline with SU0061 runs through the pond. The pond is a haven for swans, geese, ducks and, on this day, seagulls.
