Esso filling station, Shop 'n Drive and a Costa Coffee outlet, viewed across the A361, here named The Nursery. Much has changed in this late October 2014 view compared with a Google Earth Street View taken in July 2009 when this was a Total filling station. Kennet and Avon Canal [25]
Town Bridge carries Northgate Street over the Kennet and Avon Canal. Constructed in the early 19th century of ashlar. There is a 3-centred arch over the canal with a similar smaller arch over the towpath. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1262655
The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.
