Devizes features [38]
This postbox with a woolly hat is in Estcourt Street. The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.

2009 : The Bell, London Road, Devizes
The A361 passes the door. In the public park opposite is The Crammer, a pond or small lake where the moonrakers were said to have been trying to retrieve the reflection of the full moon, thinking it to be a cheese. The local version of the story claims it was a cask of brandy they were hiding from the customs men. Believe what you will.
