Rammed through
The Devizes Pyramid is a sculpture that represents the fact that Devizes name is based on the Latin 'ad divisas' - meaning 'at the boundaries'. The town lies at the convergence of Rowde, Pottern and Bishop Cannings. The sculpture features a number of aspects that are part of Devizes, including a rather proud ram's head; designed by Calne artist Richard Cowdy in 2008.

Devizes features [7]
The Devizes Pyramid is a delightful sculpture by local artist Richard Cowdry who was inspired by the name of Devizes which is based on the Latin 'ad divisas' - meaning 'at the boundaries'. The town lies at the convergence of the parishes of Rowde, Pottern and Bishop Cannings. This face shows Devizes castle. The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.
