Devizes buildings [29]
Lloyds Bank at numbers 38 and 39 Market Place is dated 1892. A very fine front with early Georgian motifs in brick and Portland Stone. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1263055 The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.

Numbers 36 and 37 Market Place are 18th century in painted brick. The shop fronts are early 19th century, that on the left with its four arched lights is original that on the right has been altered. The central doorway leads to The Ginnel with shops and other businesses and to the car park.
