The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.

Brownston House, Devizes
"The best house in Devizes", wrote Pevsner, and he wasn't wrong. Dated 1720. An attractive mixture of red brick and stone. Good gates and gate piers too. Grade I listed.
Now used as offices, currently by Renelec Ltd, electrical/heating contractors.

Chan Cottage and Brownston House, Devizes
Chan Cottage in the middle is a Chinese cuisine restaurant & takeaway at 48 New Park Street.
A blue plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4216176 states that Brownston House on the left is Grade I listed, built c1700 for Francis Merewether.
