A noble Bath stone facade of 1830 with fluted Ionic columns above a rusticated ground floor. Grade II* listed. The bank next door is late C18th, the ground floor being altered later. Grade II* listed. Beyond stands Ceres atop the old Corn Exchange (Image]).

A late 18th century grade II listed building. Now a pub, when listed in 1954 it appears to have been described as a shop or shops.

At the junction of St John's Street and Castle Lane

The clock is on the Old Town Hall. Built in 1752, of Bath stone. Formerly the Cheese Hall, used as a Town Hall during erection of the present building and later as a depot for the militia. Originally the ground floor would have been open, windows were inserted in the early 19th century. The front of the 'new' town hall is seen, further along the street, on the right of the image. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.
