Numbers 20 to 22 High Street is probably 17th century with an 18th century front and mid 19th century shop fronts. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1249826 The market town of Devizes developed around its 11th century castle. It gained a charter in 1141 and holds a weekly market in the large and picturesque Market Place. In the 16th century the town became known for its textiles and in the early 18th century held the largest corn market in the West Country. Devizes has about 500 listed buildings - a very large number for a small town.

Number 17 High Street occupies a corner site with The Chequers passage. The building is 18th century with some fine windows all with intact glazing bars. Number 24 High Street is a late 18th century building in brick with a mansard roof. The right shop front is mid 19rh century, the left shop front late 20th century in similar style. Behind the 1920s ashlar screen at number 23 High Street is the former Friends Meeting House. The house was built (or possibly rebuilt) in 1701-2 and replaced a former Meeting House in Hillworth Park.
