Route 234 RT bus at Woodcote Green
There is a lot to be said about this photo of RT 273 on route 234, taken prior to the conversion to one man operation on 18 April 1970. The 234 ran from Wallington to Selsdon, but since 1966 had peak extensions north to Hackbridge, consequent upon the lowering of the road under the railway bridge at Wallington Station to permit double deck bus operation. It is clearly a winter's day, with some evidence of snow alongside what at the time was Woodcote Green Post Office. Of particular note is the roadside clock, where the bus conductor would insert a timecard in order to maintain timetabled time.
