St Nicholas Churchyard, Sutton
The medieval church of St Nicholas, the parish church of central Sutton, was replaced between 1862 and 1864 by the present Victorian Gothic building. Its churchyard is hemmed in by modern buildings and busy roads, and is a brief contact with nature and history for the hundreds of people who every day hurry between the car parks and the shopping centre. The churchyard has been closed for burials since 1954.
