Bourne End railway station
The buffers apparently mark the end of the line, but not in this case! Trains from Maidenhead arrive at the platform but then leave in the same direction for Marlow. The reason for this oddity is that the line originally ran from Maidenhead to High Wycombe via Bourne End, with a branch line to Marlow from Bourne End. The line to High Wycombe beyond Bourne End was however truncated at this point and dismantled some years ago, leaving only the present configuration. Trains from Bourne End take about 12 minutes to get to Maidenhead and about 6 minutes to get to Marlow.
