The Smyth Almshouses, Bridge Road
The almshouses bear the inscription over the door "THEIS ALMSHOWSES WERE ERECTED & BUILT AT YE SOLE & PROPER COST & CHARGES OF JAMES SMYTH ESQUIOR CITIZEN & SALTER OF LONDON IN YE YEARE OF OUR LORD 1659" - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3667291 They are on the A4 which was the old Great West Road but they are now rather dwarfed by being on a busy road with horrible buildings opposite which take no account of this historic setting - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3667292
