The lock at Old Windsor marks the start of the New Cut, built in 1822 by the Thames Navigation Commissioners, which created Ham Island in the hook of the old river. The lock was rebuilt in 1957. The lock has a fall of 5ft 9in.

River Thames: Old Windsor Lock: MV Southern Comfort
Southern Comfort is one of the Maidenhead Steam Navigation Company's showboats, complete with a pair of lowerable funnels for getting under bridges, and paddle wheels at the rear.
