Cippenham: Deerwood Park pond
There was a sufficient flow of water through the pond along the brook either side of it that prevented it from icing over on this day when temperatures barely got up above freezing. There must be fish in the brook because a kingfisher whirred its way past in a flash of incandescent blue moments after this photograph was taken.

Cippenham Moat (2)
The earthworks that create this dry moat are all that remains of the site of a Royal Palace of King Henry III (1207 - 1272), who reigned for fifty six years from 1216 until his death. The workings middle right may have been a ramp up to the main palace entrance.
