Abney Hall, Cheadle
A long facade with diverse motifs - the result of it being of three distinct builds - but well composed - it all hangs together pretty well. The original section dates from 1847, in 1849 Travis & Mangnall enlarged the house for James Watts - their work probably runs from the left to the central gable - before G.F. Armitage added the right-hand section in 1893. Grade II* listed. I believe the house is now owned by Stockport Council who use it for offices, but it is occasionally open to the public and its grounds are a public park.

Restoration work at Abney Hall
Abney Hall was built between the 1840s and 1890s on the site of the Cheadle Grove Printworks built in 1760 but later burnt down. The last private owner was Agatha Christie's brother-in-law James Watts. In 1958 it was sold to Cheadle & Gatley Urban District Council and became Cheadle Town Hall. When Stockport Metropolitan Borough took over in 1974 most of the contents were removed to Bramhall Hall and Lyme Hall. The grounds are a local nature reserve. In 2015 the Abney Court Care Home http://www.careuk.com/care-homes/abney-court-cheadle-cheshire was built in the former walled garden. The present owners Bruntwood are currently undertaking a million pound restoration programme. http://www.downtowninbusiness.com/bruntwood-secures-new-letting-abney-hall-cheadle/ This shot was taken from a double-decker bus on the M60 motorway. Apologies for the reflections, but views of the hall from the north are very difficult to obtain.
